IIn our first visit to Mackinac Island, we discover a paradise that is a throw back to an earlier time. After all, this has been a tourist destination since 1840. So why did it take us so long to discover its magic? Enjoy these pictures as you contemplate the beauty of an island paradise that remains rooted in a horse-and-buggy and bicycles era.

Golf carts are allowed on the golf course. But where you transition from the front nine to the back nine, your path runs along a road, so you take a horse-drawn golf taxi at that point!
The movie "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer was playing on one of the hotel tv channels. It was interesting to watch the movie, filmed on the island, and then listen to the horses passing by the hotel. It was almost like we were transported back to 1912 ourselves!
The ferries make regular trips all day between Mackinac Island and St. Ignace and Mackinaw City.
It was interesting to look across the Straits of Mackinac over at the Mackinac Bridge, that marks where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet. Magnificent bridge!
